白い靴下をはいた猫とくらしはじめよう

Kutusita Nyanko (靴下にゃんこ) is a mascot cat character franchise created by San-X, the company behind iconic characters like Rilakkuma and Sumikkogurashi.

Kutusita Nyanko was designed by Toya Yoshie and debuted in 2007. The titular Cat-in-Socks, also known as Bon-chan, lives together with its papa (owner) and cat friends. It loves music and is frequently drawn humming a tune, but most of all, it loves Papa.

I recently fell in love with this little cat and was saddened to find out there hasn't been a new Kutusita Nyanko release since 2016. Maybe in 2027, when it'll be officially 20 years old?

Like the rest of the San-X lineup, Kutusita Nyanko features in a range of cute stationery and houseware like notebooks, plushies, stickers, and bags/purses.

Personally, I've yet to collect anything apart from a little plushie of Bon-chan, but I'm really satisfied with just that right now (￣︶￣ )

picture books

From 2008~2014, seven books about Kutusita Nyanko were released. As far as I'm aware, these are only available in Japanese.

the DS game

In 2009, an official Kutusita Nyanko game was released for the Nintendo DS, entitled 「靴下にゃんこ～白い靴下をはいた猫とくらしはじめました。～」 (Kutusita Nyanko: Began Life with a Cat who Wears White Socks.)

You take in the lost/runaway Kutusita Nyanko, and upload daily photos of it to your blog in hopes of finding its owner. The only goals in the game are keeping your cat well fed and happy, and finding new items for it to play with every day. It's so cute it makes me want to cry. I love this game...
